Call for applications: Cultural programme officer in Kenya

WiBO Culture Artcellerator is accepting applications for a programme officer position at the community-based organisation.

WiBO Culture is an outfit that since 2016 has specialised in the production, preservation and promotion of authentic cultural experiences in music, food, fashion, games and storytelling.

The organisation strives to accelerate the socio-economic potential of cultural and creative products in Kenya through the following:


  • Creation of trusting and mutually beneficial relationships between producers and consumers of creative products.
  • Improvement of the quality of creative products with a view of increasing the revenue base for creative entrepreneurs.
  • Promotion of sustainable livelihoods for creative entrepreneurs.

Qualifications

Note that academic qualification will be a secondary requirement to experience, expertise and knowledge.

The ideal candidate should:


  • Have a diploma or degree in the fields of either communication and media, business management, talent management, business development or marketing.
  • Have a sound knowledge of the creative economy and current trends.
  • Have the ability to develop and maintain a range of industry contacts.
  • Have negotiation skills in securing the best deal for the collective of artists.
  • Have good communication, design and presentation skills.
  • Have marketing and public relations, digital marketing skills necessary.
  • Be focused yet experimental.
  • Be punctual.

Key Responsibilities

Artists management


  • Membership management – oversee the recruitment, orientation and enrolment of members of the creative collective.
  • Brand management – develop and update press kits and technical riders for the collective of artists.
  • Bookings management – liaise with various booking agencies, including events, venues and festival. 
  • Develop tour itineraries, secure travel documents and ensure smooth travel for the collective of artists.
  • Financial management – oversee the financial accounts of the artists accounts with the CBO, ensuring their statutory compliance for all artists involved in the work.

Events management


  • Develop signature events that generate revenue for the artists.
  • Provide logistical support to the execution of various events that are curated for a variety of clients.
  • Business development.
  • Unlock the revenue stream that focuses on artists as a properly managed resource.
  • Develop and pursue outside-the-box entrepreneurial strategies that increase the revenue base for the organisation while providing consistent income to the collective of artists.

Communications and public relations


  • Maintain web and social media presence for the organisation and grow a dedicated following.
  • Represent the collective of artists in relevant forums including meetings, conferences and showcases.
  • Network widely and develop a suitable database of contacts that is useful for the organization and collective of artists.

Remuneration


  • The successful applicant shall receive a monthly salary of 30 000 Kenyan shillings gross monthly salary, subject to statutory deductions, NHIF and NSSF. 
  • 10% commission will be awarded for every new business deal secured over 200 000 Kenyan shillings.
  • A Christmas bonus equivalent to half a month’s allowance subject to performance will be given.
