Kenyan Rapper Octopizzo Faces Death Charges, 19 years old dead

A Kenyan rapper is at the centre of events that led to the death of a teenager in Nairobi’s Woodley estate.

Henry Ohanga, popularly known as Octopizzo, in a phone conversation, claimed Kenneth Abom, 19, broke into his house last Thursday.

Kenneth reportedly ran to their house on the fourth floor with a cut on the right side of his head and blood-stained shirt.

According to witnesses, who are also residents of Newbury court in the estate, Kenneth fled as Octopizzo pursued him.

“He was immediately told to stop and told that Kenneth was a resident,” said Anthony Wanga, a neighbour.

Abom’s family described Newbury court as a quiet and peaceful neighborhood where everybody knew the other residents and was shocked by turn of events.

His brother, Paul Abom, said Kenneth dashed to the bathroom to clean himself up and the next thing they knew he had fallen through the window to the ground.

“He was rushed to Nairobi Women’s Hospital and then referred to Kenyatta National Hospital where doctors promised that he would recover,” Paul said.

His father, Aggrey Abom, said Kenneth looked well on Friday and seemed to be recovering, but on Saturday at around 10am, he died.

“No, I did not hit the boy. His father was the first person I talked to after the incident. I did not know what he came to do in my house. An hour later, we heard that the boy dropped from the fourth floor,” Octopizzo said.

Abom said Kenneth had a cut on the right side of his forehead and they suspected he might have been hit with a blunt object.

He said Octopizzo, being a celebrity who many youths look up to, and being new in the neighborhood, could have attracted Kenneth’s curiosity.

Octopizzo has however denied hitting the boy and said he did not know him or anything about him.
Abom said they were yet to report the matter, but Octopizzo said police visited and inspected the area.

The rapper came to the limelight barely 10 years ago. He is known to have released songs like Ivo Ivo, Voices of Kibera, Swag and Oliel.
